West Jakarta LH Sub-agency Invites Residents Intensifying Maggot Cultivation

West Jakarta Environmental (LH) Sub-agency keeps inviting residents intensifying maggot cultivation to handle waste problem.

It has economic value

West Jakarta Environmental Sub-agency Head, Achmad Hariyadi, said maggot cultivation is able to reduce waste volume dumped to Bantar Gebang Dump Site.

"The organic and inorganic waste volume in Jakarta reaches 1,500 tons. 53 percent of it is organic waste," he said, Wednesday (11/20).

He added that organic waste that can be decomposed by Maggots is food waste. As much as 72 percent of organic waste is currently still dumped at the Bantar Gebang Dump Site.

"There are 70 cultivators in West Jakarta spread in eight sub-districts," he added.

The agency, he continued, will facilitate maggot cultivators to collaborate with hotels, restaurants, cafes, catering, and eateries, to optimize waste management.

"At least 72 percent organic waste should not be dumped to Bantar Gebang Dump Site. It has economic value," he stated.
